Weeding Out the B.S (Bologna Slices!)
For those of you who know me, know I'm all about research and evidence-based practices. Now a study exists for a topic I've been subjectively thinking/ stating for years. 8 out of 9 social media health and weight loss 'influencers' in the UK were essentially sharing non-factual and opinion-based advice rather than credible, evidence-based practices (this included an M.D and a certified nutritionist).
A study presented at the European Congress of Obesity (ECO) found that 1 in 9 health 'influencers' was sharing/ promoting evidence-based advice. (Notes: the study was a small sample size and further exploration is needed).
Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of great advice and tools on social media. We've never in history had the accessibility at our finger tips to look-up, connect and communicate. Being able to weed out the BS is necessary and of most importance!
